The Christmas Faire has come and gone and with the holidays coming to an end i'm back to work. Many thanks to everyone who supported me at the Faire this year, I really appreciate it! We had a great turn out even though the weather was terrible. I've just uploaded new images of the art jewellery i've been working on. Have a look! Happy New Year to you all!
I'm getting ready for the D.I. Christmas Craft Faire coming up on the weekend of Dec 1st & 2nd. I have a new booth location this year. I'm still in the Denman Community Hall, as you come through the door past the first booth on the right, turn right and you'll see my booth straight ahead against the wall. I'm bringing woven mirrors, art jewelery, & my small sculpture pieces out this year. Please stop by if you have a chance! This is a fantastic Faire with so much local talent to peruse. Make a day of it, enjoy a yummy lunch & get your Christmas shopping done early! The Faire is free and shuttle service is provided from the bottom of the D.I. Ferry hill to both halls so you can park and walk on the ferry. For those who are able it's also a short walk up the hill. Many thanks to everyone who came out to our show opening! We had a fantastic turn out and both Leslie and I really appreciated you coming out to see our new work. For anyone who hasn't seen the show yet, the Denman Arts Centre is open daily from 11-4:00 and the show runs until September 4th. Stop by if you can! I've been working away at a new series of sculptures for my upcoming show with Leslie in August. Life is very busy but the evenings are a wonderful time to just sit down, relax and weave....a bit at a time, and it will all get done. Our show opening is happening on Thursday, August 23rd, at 7:00 p.m. at the Art Centre, Denman Island, BC. Hope to see you there! The christmas faire was wonderful this year! I meet lots of new people who have moved to Denman including two metalsmiths, I was thrilled! I always enjoy the exchange of knowledge. Thank you to everyone who supported me with your purchases this year! Here's a picture of a new sculpture in progress. I've uploaded new images from my small sculpture series on the main page. With the Denman Island Studio Tour behind me i'm beginning a new series of pieces similar to "Explorations", incorporating copper and willow, but in a smaller format. After working on a large scale in recent years it's nice to to be working in a smaller format again. I will be posting the remaining pieces in my abstract small sculptures series, which are all 12 x 12 inches, later this week. Thank you to all who came to my studio over the studio tour weekend! Over 130 people came and overall it was a fantastic experience. In the pursuit of metal weaving techniques i've come across some fantastic metal artists over the years. A few that truly stand out for me in regards to the quality of their work, and their willingness to share their knowledge, are Arline M. Fisch, Mary Lee Hu, David Paul Bacharach, and John Searles. Metal is such a wonderful medium to work with. I enjoy exploring all the textures that can be created, the variation of colours achieved, and the endless weaving techniques that can be applied. Here's a new copper piece i'm working on. I'm enjoying the effect of the mica powders and layered textures. The centre of the piece is a new weave i'm experimenting with. A great exchange of information with fellow sculptors, through the Metal Arts Guild of Canada, and with local Denman Artists recently started. Wonderful to be able to share our knowledge with one another. I find it very inspiring. |
